หลักการทำงานของเครื่อง ใช้ Oscillator แปลงสัญญาณทางไฟฟ้าให้เป็นแรงกระทำต่อตัวอย่าง ด้วยความถี่ผ่านทาง push rod วัดตำแหน่งของ push rod เมื่อตัวอย่างได้รับความร้อน ด้วย displacement transducer (LVDT) ซึ่งจะแสดงให้เห็นถึงการ deformation ของตัวอย่าง ผลวิเคราะห์ที่ได้ แสดงเป็นกราฟ มีแกน Y1 เป็นค่า storage modulus แกน Y2 เป็นค่า loss modulus และแกน X เป็นอุณหภูมิ

การวิเคราะห์สมบัติเชิงกลแบบไดนามิก (DMA) เป็นการศึกษาสมบัติความหยุ่นหนืดและพฤติกรรมของวัสดุ ชนิดของวัสดุที่สามารถนำมาวิเคราะห์ได้ ได้แก่ เทอร์โมพลาสติก, เทอร์โมเซ็ต, อีลาสโตเมอร์, สารยึดติด, สีและแลคเกอร์, ฟิล์มและเส้นใย, วัสดุเชิงประกอบ, อาหาร, ยา, ไขมันและน้ำมัน, เซรามิก, วัสดุก่อสร้าง และเหล็ก
